Overview

The 1990 Pontiac Bonneville full-size sedan was one of the biggest sedans on the market, seating six adults comfortably. It came as the base LE, SE, or sportier SSE, though each had the same 3.8-liter, 165-hp V6 engine mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. New in the 1990 Bonneville is some front-end restyling, with a new grille on the SSE and new taillights on the LE and SE. A rear spoiler, fog lights, remote trunk release, and split-fold bench, which came standard on the SSE, are now also standard on the SE.
The SSE was the high-end 1990 Bonneville, with a load of luxury standard features. These included, power front seats, keyless entry, headlight cleaners, heated mirrors, Rallye-style instrument panel, cruise control, and a driver's information center that alerted you to problems. 4-wheel ABS brakes were also included. The LE base model offered few standard features, but most of what the SSE had could be bought as options.
1990 Bonneville fans love its engine power, saying that despite some labored pickup, it is a great highway cruiser. The interior is huge, as is the trunk, making for comfortable rides. The tank-like sedan is sturdy and safe, very dependable and reliable, say drivers. It also handles surprisingly easy for a car of its size. Complaints point out the boring boxy look. Many owners report transmission failures and repairs. But overall, the 1990 Pontiac Bonneville seems quite durable.

Have owned since 1994 when I got it with 40k miles on it. Now has 195k. Love the body style! Have had no major problems, just routine maintenance mechanically. As I live in northern climate (snow, salt, etc) I have spend some money on preventing/correcting rust issues. The OEM Bose 6 speaker sound system was excellent, which I have since upgraded (including subs). Rides beautifully, handles excellent, and with some mechanical 'tweaks' (aftermarket upgrades) I consistently get 36 on the highway. Visibility is excellent. Awesome highway car as it purs like a kitten at 80 mph turning 1600 - 1700 rmp depending on terrain and wind factors. Very comfortable and roomy interior, especially for a tall man (6'4" 210 lbs). Adequate power and acceleration for a vehicle of this size and weight. This is the way cars should be made today!

Lots of power and it never asked for anything in return. Had all of the toys, I still miss the auto climate control.

195k...... need I say more? Still purs like a kitten but enough cat underneath when needed. A true highway car in my opinion. Love the body style. Have owned since 1994 and refuse to buy newer. Car of my dreams.

My 1990 bonnie is getting on in years, and is over 150,000 miles, but the engine is still running like a champ. I love the interior, and the lovely gold rims(though 2 have fallen off!) Huge interior and trunk, great for road trips. The only big thing causing problems is rust, which caused my entire exhaust to fall off. Sometimes water leaks into the trunk, and the AC is weak now(though I could easily fix it if I had the money). All the problems are because of the old age, not poor construction.
