Although rated at only 110 bhp, the 2.2L 4-cylinder is very torquey, and capable of accelerating the car very quickly, especially when equipped with the manual transmission. Top speed is governed at 185 km/h, although I believe it could do about 200 without the governer. It also reaches that speed fairly quickly. As with most Mazdas, the handling is it's biggest performance feature, and the MX-6 is no exception. Steering is very quick and responsive, and the grip is extraordinary. The brakes also do an admirable job of hauling the car down from speed, despite the rear brakes being drums. This car is also extremely reliable, as the powertrain is one of the longest lasting I have ever seen. The styling is also quite tasteful, and allows for a decent amount of room in the backseat.
