Overview

The 1973 Chevrolet Monte Carlo represented the first car in the second generation of Monte Carlos, and as such featured a redesign.
The hardtop was gone, replaced with a pillared coupe. A 5-mph bumper was added to the front in order to meet the new federal standards. The interior was all-new as well, though it showed some similarities to the Corvette: The driver was surrounded by his or her instruments as if piloting a jet plane, rather than driving a car.
The base engine was a 350-ci 5.7-liter V8 rated at 145 horsepower, with the top available engine being a 454-ci 7.4-liter rated at 245 horsepower.
Notice was taken of the changes, and the '73 Monte Carlo was given Motor Trend's prestigious "Car of the Year" title.

You'd be hard pressed to find another classic car these days with such versatility. It rides like a dream, handles curves well for its vintage, and has ample power in any trim. Most notably, it is undoubtedly anything but subtle with gi-normously beautiful voluptuous curves. I would also have to say that it is the coolest car I have ever had the joy to own and drive and can't imagine ever getting rid of it. On the mechanical/technical side of things.... It's a fairly simple enough auto that anyone with basic mechanical skills can maintain. The downside to these cars is basically that by these years the corporate 'corner cutting' and cheapening of materials is most evident in the interior trim. And thanks to Ralph Nader, this model year Monte had mandatory front bumper shock absorbers. Rear shock absorbers were not utilized on Montes until 1974 thus leaving the profile of the 73 a true standalone.

The body is stand alone one of a kind I don't care what anyone says. I have had mine for 2 1/2 year never a single prob. Mine has the 5.7 350 v8 in it. I installed a 650 Edelbrock carb in replace of the stock 2bbl. I only have one thing I wish was fixed I hate limited slip differential!!!!!! There should be a law against Cars or Trucks having them. Positraction All the Way!!!
