Why does my check engine light start flashing.It runs terrible when its on but it quits flashing after a mile or two. Then it does it periodadicaly

Flashing check engine light is warning you of the potential major damage to vehicle if continued operation. Turn off ASAP. Have check engine codes read and post them back on here. These will give us clues as to where your issue is.
