i have a 2001 bmw 5 series that just died on the freeway i checked it there are no codes found

We could use some more information to go on. How much fuel did you have showing on your gauge? The E39 is know for having a fuel pump in the tank that will develop a hole, which will suck air if the fuel level gets below 1/4 tank. I found that my range was about 88 miles when it cut out on the third time. If you still have the original one, it might be time to change it out. Sadly, you can not just buy the hose, and the unit runs around $400.

You might also have some trash in your fuel system. Try some LiquiMoly Jectron in your tank.
