Will a 2000 S10 5spd trans work in a 1992
S10 truck if both are 2wd 5spd 4.3 trucks
from the factory?

The numbers must match. Otherwise output shaft design may not match, for sure the switches won’t connect and there maybe a problem with speedometer drives when going back that far, from OBD 1 transmission to OBD 2 transmission.

It's usually best to go with what the vehicle was designed for , have the original rebuilt , why would you replace an old worn tranny with an old worn tranny ?

Not at all. 1992 is OBD I but 2000 is OBD II. They're completely different computer control systems and not compatible with each other at all! The newest you can go is 1994. BUT the information on the tags of both transmissions must match exactly! A 1995 transmission could be either OBD I or OBD II so stay away from that year altogether!! Hope that helps! Jim
