Dead battery

Asked by Deb Nov 27, 2016 at 06:40 PM about the 2005 Volkswagen Beetle GL 2.0L

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have replaced battery & alternator on my 05
beetle.  If it sits for more than 24hrs I have to jump
start the car. Checked all the fuses & everything is
good.  What can be constantly draining my battery?

Turn e verything in the car off in the car by hand.when you get out of the car make sure every single light goes out.I really think the problem is deeper than that.but this is a good start.I dont care turn the nob off.I want you to try something when you get home disconnect the battery and hook it up in the morning both sides tell me what happens.craig

check all your lights pull all the bulbs clean the sockets and change if needed if they look burnt. be sure to check the license plate bulbs. as well as the interior bulbs. After that try checking the alarm. Try turning off the motion sensor. This ussaly can be done by a button behind the seat belt on the drivers side piller. Press and hold for 3 seconds or till the light on your door goes out. hopefully this helps.

I've been dealing with the same thing for years. I have pulled fuses, tried everything that has been suggested and still no luck. Did anyone find an answer?

After being told I need my alternator replaced again only 3 months after getting a new one my mechanic asked an auto elec to take a look and the connection that runs from the battery to the alternator was hot and damaged. Replaced this and happy days. Worth getting an auto elec to have a look as the alternator appears to be not working but I didn’t need mine replaced the first time unfortunately. If only we had known this then.
