Ford pu overheating!

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have 99 Ford pu, replaced radiator
water pump thermostat but when start
when engine is cool temperature
gauge goes to hot! Top radiator hose
is cool! Turn off and when I restart
truck goes back to normal! Replaced
thermostat twice! Any suggestions

I think you have an air pocket. Purge air out of the cooling system.

Check the wiring going to the coolant temperature sensor. If it's damaged and a bare spot on the wiring is touching something metal it will drive the temperature gauge to hot without the engine actually overheating. A faulty coolant temperature sensor can do that too. Hope that helps! Jim
