You didn't state what engine you have - I see used engines selling for half of what they are asking. You can also buy a complete rebuilt head for less than 500 ($325 from here: http://www.shop.headsonly.com/TOYOTA-4-RUNNER-5VZFE-34-V-6-REBUILT-CYLINDER-HEAD-4RUNNER-5VZFE-V6.htm) Their price is high, shop around and you'll find shops that'll do it for a lot less. Spend some time on Toyota-related forums and ask for shops that sell new or rebuilt complete heads, and find a local mechanic that'll install them.

Sry- it's a V4- supposedly rare and hard to find new- I was told that the dealer might look in a junkyard for just the head- hopefully that reduces the cost of repair! I know that I can't buy a good car for that price so either I repair it or spend more on a different car! Thanx.
