The dipstick allows much more information than just oil level. You can tell how much carbon build up is in the oil based on color, also the smell of gasoline in the oil is possible an important aspect of oil change timing, Also you dont have to be a computer jockey to determine when you need an oil change + the electronic determination of oil level is relative an not absolute. There is no arguing about oil level with a meniscus. Sorry BMW guess I will buy a Mercedes SUV!
Getting oil, brake fluid or battery acid in your face while you are threatening your life under your jacked up X5 struggling to get the crank case plug out so you can get hot oil all over your hands and up your arms (not to say all over the floor of your garage or driveway, sounds like so much fun! Get with the program BMW! Suction through the dipstick opening is the "new wave" to remove old oil from the crankcase. No hassle, no ramp to drive up and fall off, no need to get horizontal and its easy to pour the old oil into a container for disposal !!
Suction through the dipstick doesn’t remove some particulates that wash out through the drain hole, after awhile not so great.
