2017 Kia Sportage burning oil

Prepare to get the run around from Kia. Others are having issues especially with the 2.4l engine and oil use however Kia says this is normal

I have the same problem. I have a 2017 Kia Sportage and after oil was changed, I verified the level at 1500 miles from the last oil change and the level dropped below the empty line. The dealer said that i must pay to flush the motor and clean the throttle body first, and then they will do a oil consumption test. Each process cost over $100. Thanks. I know thats not the problem. This is happening since new.

Hi, I have the same problem with my Kia Sportage 2017. I purshased it at dealer New, with zero miles. The dealer told me exactly the same words. I think somethkng big is going up with this oil consumtion. Did you get any solution or answer to this??

I have a 2017 Sportage 2.4L GDI. Noticed the same as Gustavo just this week (13 Dec 2020). The engine light came on, and when I checked the oil, the level was below the Low mark. Just the tip of the dipstick was wet with oil! This to me seems to be an extreme use of oil. It might be burning oil, but I have not noticed any blue colour in the exhaust.

2nd owner and just went over 60,000 (was at 52000 first time I made complaint) burned through all oil in 1500 miles and Kia is denying an issue. Get ready to fight

I have a 2017 Kia Sportage ex. Using oil 1/2 quart to a quart every 1000 miles. We followed the guide lines by Kia and dealership in Alcoa Tn . We have wasted 6 trips to dealership for oil consumption test and have been talking to Kia costumer care and have got no where with the Kia customer care. Dealership said it normal for Sportage to use this much oil so does Kia customer care . How many customers that purchased a Kia do they tell your car going to used a 1/2 to a quart of oil every thousand miles. How many cars would they sale. This is my third Kia and my last never been treated so bad by a dealership and a Kia company . And my family and friends owns Kia cars because I recommend them to Kia . What a big mistake I did recommend Kia . Everyone I meet that car shopping I will show them our paperwork and say you better shop another car company . Judy Murrell

2017 Kia Sportage EX. Only 3 1/2 years old, I am the original owner which has 29979 miles on it. Only serviced by the dealer. Twice I checked the oil and no oil on the dip stick and the oil light did not come on. Second time (Feb 2021) I called my service advisor and she brought me in. Told me how they were going to do the oil consumption test that I had to come back 3 times at a 1000 each and the 3rd time they would put me in a rental for 30 days and replace the engine since it was still under warranty. Took it back last week (March 2021) for the 1st 1000 and was told that the oil consumption test was complete because the car only burned 1/2 quart oil and that it was normal to burn that much oil in 1000 miles. Oh and my service advisor who was sitting at her desk did not greet me like she always does. She sent someone I didn't know to tell me they were done and the engine was fine. I traded that car in the next day. That was my 4th Kia!

I have read many car manufacturers are using low tension piston rings to meet our corrupt government Cafe' standards. I found they have been using them as long as 11 years ago in GM, now the question is, which cars are doing it and is this the reason Kia's are using oil? I have a Tucson 1.6 Turbo not using oil, yet, and a 2017 Sportage using a 1/2 qt every 1200 miles. This is just wrong.

I have a 2017 KIA Sportage and the engine light just went on and all the sudden really bad exhaust and burning oil. I have several friends that are mechanics and so far it is either the turbo fuel injector or the PVC valve. Replacing the PVC valve is inexpensive and you can do it yourself. I'm going to try that today and see if that fixes the issue. You will need to use Sea Foam oil cleaner, but don't run your vehicle with that in it. If you don't change the oil yourself, bring a can and ask if they will put it in and let the car idle for 15 mins and the drain it out and put fresh oil in. This will clean out the engine and hopefully the emissions sensor will eventually clean it's self. If not, I will need to be cleaned or replaced. I'm told it's better to replace it. DO NOT DRIVE your car if it's burning oil! If the components in the fuel injector are damaged, those parts can get in the engine and ruin your engine.

If your engine gets damaged with this issue, I am told that KIA will replace your engine and fix the issue on a recall. So it shouldn't be any charge to you.
