Transmission interchange

Asked by chasfb Jan 14, 2015 at 07:22 PM about the Dodge RAM 2500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought a 1992 Dodge 3/4 ton pickup with a 318 and automatic.The tranny is
probably bad. The linkage is screwed up cuz to get it in reverse, indicator shows being in
2nd, and it is a struggle to get it to back up if I can keep it from killing. Guessing I'll need
a different tranny. My question is what years, models, and engine sizes have a
compatable tranny? Many thanks

look closely at the shift lever that attaches to transmission. They crack and then don't work properly. unhook the rod that hooks to the lever, then move lever forwards and backwards to see if it has any free play in it. A lever is a lot cheaper and easer to replace. Set parking brake, shut eng off before doing this!!!!!!!

Will a 1998 dodge2500 transmission work in a 2001 dodge 2500?
