Get the misfire fixed before it destroys your catalytic converter.

I have 2010 Avalanche LTZ same thing P0308. does it idle rough? also is there any lifter noise that started at the same time? my problem is a failed lifter on cylinder eight, it is pitted and has a flat spot on the roller, they are all noisy and suspect as far as i am concerned. i am sure you have Active Fuel Management, aka DOD displacement on demand. even if your problem is something simple, i urge you to check out the problems with these motors that have this system. just google GM 5.3L with AFM, problems. I was told by a mechanic on "Just Ask" that once i fix the random misfire on cyl 8 that the other problems will go away. I will be putting all new lifters and a upgraded VLOM starting tomorrow, doing this repair myself is going to cost me about $900 I think that the parts i have chosen will fix this inherent problem with the AFM that is my hope anyway. 'Just Ask" is a very good resource ask for Gary if they will let you, you pay $26 and you have a certified GM mechanic with many years experience working on these vehicles and they will answer your questions and help you troubleshoot until you find and fix the problem. I have read that a bad battery or connection can cause the problems you are having but i believe that your problem is cyl 8 wire, plug, coil pack, injector or God forbid something more expensive like mine. good luck
