Have a 1996 Yukon replacing the lock
cylinder housing wondering if I have to take
off the steering wheel or if their is a trick

Normally you would not have to, but best bet is to consult a repair manual. Check your local library for one, they usually subscribe to one of the online subscription repair manuals you can access for free.

so i fixed the problem the gears in the ignition lock cylinder housing were broken thank you all for ur responses
