This is a great value sports car. The technology is somewhat dated (2001) but that doesnt detract from the driving experience. You cant argue with a sharp looking 32V DOHC 5-SP convertible with <80k miles for $17k off the lot.Apr 15, 2022

The performance is great. From the moment you turn the key and hear the growl of a great throttle note, you can tell this car has power.
Acceleration is fantastic - even in 5th gear at 70 mph, plenty of extra horses to pass easily. shifts like silk - no need to fight this one. One warning - NEVER take off the traction control, unless you are on a track and want to light up the tires.
Handling is great as well - sticks to corners and has the power to smoothly accelerate out of them. The same goes for hills. Makes this an extremely fun car to drive.
Finally, the front bucket seats are amazing - very comfortable, even on long drives - great lateral support for sharp cornering. The back seat is nice, but front passengers will not be able to have seats fully moved back unless rear sea passengers are small or contortionists. The back legroom is about the only complaint here, but fone for relatively short distances.

I like the mod exhaust noise. It makes you feel like you are bringing a jet to the road. It also handles very well for city and highway speeds. But in case you want to try the machine out, you have the chance with this one. On a raceway, I did 140 mph and slowed because my mom freaked out. The previous owner did 175 mph once. Decent all around car. Very good handling, reasonable acceleration and braking.
Build quality was probably average for 2001 but would be below average today.
The styling was quite nice on the exterior, decent on the interior. Fuel economy
was about average for the performance although today's vehicles would do much
better. Had some expensive repairs like ABS/TC module which cost about $1400 to
fix, rear half shaft seals leaked which was another expensive fix. Other than that

One of my current Mustangs is a 2001 Ford Mustang Cobra. Although I have upgraded the exhaust, suspension, and wheels, the car was already amazing stock. Any one who drives a Mustang Cobra will fall in love and be amazed at how far back in the seats you go when the throttle is maxed.Dec 25, 2011

Good car, minus the POS 5 speed transmission. It was not a T5 like the past Cobras and GTs, but it was not the badass T56 found in later Cobras, Vettes, Vipers, ect. I went threw 4 of them, with two of them dying just weeks after replacement. It was a good car, and I had a blast owning it as such an early age. Alot of my best car moments happened in this one. Performance: Acceleration is good and the power comes on smooth, it could use a little more, but I plan to remedy that with a set of gears, and full bolt-ons until boost can be afforded. Its braking is solid and feels much more planted than the straight axel mustangs. The irs may not be the best, but I consider it to be a vast improvement over the SRA.
Build quality...well it's a ford mustang, and some hate the interior squeaks and the sporty ride, I however don't mind either as it is a mustang after all. It is supposed to be brute and a little rough on the edges.
Appearance: the interior upgrade over the standard mustangs is nice, the cobra tailoring is very nice. The ext is pretty standard with the difference of the front bumper and rear bumper(being embossed with COBRA). The front bumper is one of my favorite ones to be put on a mustang.
Fun factor: well it's a convertible, it's got a v8, it has a 5spd and a loud exhaust, what else could one really want. 5 out of 5 for fun to drive!Jan 21, 2009

Good acceleration, good braking, good handling. The convertible top is much better than the 86 model Mustang I had previously. The top is much quitier, seals well. Ride quality isn't so great. I dislike the way the Top won't operate unless the car is in park. In stop and go traffic of 5mph or so, I could put the top down on the 86 model, now you have to apply the parking brake to put the top up or down.Jan 04, 2009

Performance is as to be expected from a ~3800lb race weight car with ~320 (275 rear wheel) hp. The real fun starts when you ditch the stock 3.27 gears. As an N/A car should be with a Looooooooooong power band that peaks high in the RPM range, you need something that will get you there quickly and keep you there.
VERY fun car to own and drive. I'm not seeking the fastest thing on 4 wheels and not even close to it -- but it's loud and handles AWESOME with the IRS. Aug 23, 2008

This car accelerates quickly, however the power curve is high in the RPMs. (the redline is at 6800 but it will rev well over 7000) It handles great with its independent rear suspension and rides very comfortably. It looks awesome, sounds great, and is built Ford tough! Also, there is plenty of room for performance mods. Aug 11, 2008

I just bought this car about a week ago and its been one of the greatest cars i have ever driven. If your looking for a car that has great power and relability then this is def it. Granted its got 320 crank hp with a few bolt ons you can make this car a force to be messed with. Unfortuntly its not like the terminators but theres a lot more potential. Difficulty starting vehicle in morning when cold due to battery mounted in trunk and previous owner installed a relay solenoid to keep fuses from popping
So I recently purchased a 2001 Mustang Cobra SVT from my buddy. He mounted the battery in the trunk. He used big gauge cables from the battery to the alternator and starter. He also installed a starter relay solenoid in the trunk with in line fuses between the starter and the relay. The battery is a brand new Optima and I also had the aternator tested. I can hear an audible clicking in the trunk my guess is the relay is arching. I try to start like 20 times in the morning when it is cold. After vehicle starts and warms up the vehicle starts every time. The guys that tested the Alternator and checked out my system said that I need to replace the relay solenoid with a high performance continous realy. I checked on every website available on the internt and I have not been able to locate what they suggested. I spoke with some of the guys that work for Jegs performance and they said that they had no idea why there is a relay mounted in the trunk? I contacted the previous owner and he said that he put the relay in there because The actual relay in the trunk is due to the initial power requirement when starting the car. Too much power spike when trying to initially start the car can cause fuses to blow. The car had no engine work, and didn’t require the solenoid in the trunk for any other reason tham being able to control starting the car with the length of power cable needed to relocate the battery. That being said the last guy I spke with from Jegs performance suggested that I by pass the relay and wire directly to the batterty to see what happens. Any food for thought would be greatly appreciated. I am getting ready to transport the vehiicle from Hawaii to Florida and if the car does not start when I drop it off then the company will not load vehicle on the ship?
