The Chevrolet Astro LS received several changes for 2000. Besides the improved antilock braking system and reworked engine for quieter operation, the 2000 Chevy Astro LS featured a remote keyless entry system, cloth bucket seats, a 27-gallon plastic gas tank, and chrome wheels as standard equipment. Chevrolet added a battery-rundown protection system and lockout protection in 2000; in addition, accessories could run for up to 20 minutes after ignition shutoff.
As with most Chevy Astro years, the 2000 LS thrilled its many fans with its roomy interior, comfortable ride, and ability to park it in a garage despite its size. However, many 2000 Chevy Astro LS owners complained of cramped leg space in the front, electrical problems, and other mechanical problems.

Chevrolet's 2000 Astro STD AWD (all-wheel drive) is essentially identical to the RWD (rear-wheel drive) base style, STD. The AWD is heavier, has a slightly larger turning radius, and a lower (but still impressive) towing capacity (5800 lbs); of course, it gets a little lower mileage per gallon of fuel, too.
Many 2000 Chevy Astro STD AWD owners gushed about its comfort, space, and suitability for long trips - and some about its reliability. Others (even including some fans) said it "ate" brakes and tires, and had other mechanical problems.
