Arriving in the summer of 2008, the 2009 Ford Flex stays true to the 2005 Fairlane concept on which it's based. Built on a MAZDA6 platform, the full-size, seven-passenger crossover represents Ford's replacement for its minivan lineup. Resembling an elongated MINI, even down to the choice of a white or silver roof, the boxy shape enhances interior space and visibility.
Longer, wider, and with more unique styling than the Taurus X, the 2009 Flex seats seven in three rows. Both rear rows fold flat, and optional captain's chairs for the second row tumble forward and come with their own footrests. Its 202 inches makes it longer than the Chevrolet Tahoe, and its 3.5-liter, 265-hp V6 engine and 6-speed automatic can tow up to 4100 pounds. It is likely that Ford's new 320-hp Twin-Force V6 may be an optional engine in the future. The Flex comes standard as a rear-wheel drive crossover, but will also offer an on-demand AWD version.
Available trims include SE, SEL, Limited, and probably a luxury Lincoln in 2009. All will feature 18-inch wheels, ABS brakes, dual front side and curtain airbags for all rows, and stability control. Some unique options include a three panel Vista sunroof (one for each row), programmable interior lighting, keypad entry, a refrigerator that actively cools down beverages, and the Microsoft-developed Ford Sync system that integrates media devices and includes a hard drive. Blending old and new, the retro shape of the 2009 Flex carries over to the inside, with tweed upholstery in base models. Though getting buzzcuts and wearing poodle skirts is not a requirement for families, it wouldn't surprise us to one day see wood-paneled doors make a comeback.

Very luxurious interior, perfect for road trips. Since it is an 09 model, it doesnt have a back up camera or Bluetooth. But is is otherwise loaded and very comfortable. Gas mileage is what youd expect for a vehicle that size, 18 city and 21 hwy. More than adequate power. Very smooth ride.
If youre looking for a good deal on a used 3 row crossover, the Flex is a good option, because since they were never very popular, they dont tend to hold theyre value, so its a good opportunity to find a great deal. May 24, 2021

We absolutely loved this car. Although we are downsizing right now, I'm sure we'll be purchasing another Flex in a few years. My husband and I both loved being able to drive
several others when we traveled as a group from work out to lunch or to a conference.
We opened up the back and used it to sleep in when we traveled with our motorcycles in tow....one time we even carried a motorcycle in the back!
It goes everywhere. The luxury of a car and the versatility of a truck...but it is so pretty we ended up getting an old truck for our dirty jobs...didn't want to mess it up!Jun 20, 2013

Great back seats, even for tall people - great leg room. Fridge in the back is awesome and can hold a six pack or a quart of ice cream. Plenty of power for towing and have pulled boats with it and not a problem putting boats into the water or pulling them out. Dec 16, 2011

We love our Flex so much that we're going to upgrade to a 2012. We love the sound, mileage, comfort and entertainment system. We would prefer more leg room in the last row and a little more cargo space in the back. Solid acceleration, handling and breaking. I feel safe in this car.Dec 11, 2011

Not bad for a minivan, if that's what you want to call it. Handles much better than one. Weird tranny - acceleration is sluggish and the tranny doesn't shift hard/fast enough in my opinion, but it has big wheel base and rides like a caddy. No problems after 50k except for temperamental power door lock on one door. The space and features inside make up for the Kleenex-box exterior. As far as gas goes, I find it a bit cheaper to run than my old 2006 Caravan, so not bad for its size.Oct 13, 2010

Awsome looking car for a station wagen. Always getting compliments. Fuel mileage is suprisingly good for its size, about 20 mpg avg. Lots of seating, although where I live, black leather wasnt the smartest choice. Candy apple red color is great. Quality materials used in build. comfort everywhere. Love all the room in both the front and back seats. The acceleration is smooth and quick for a big vehicle. gas mileage has been accceptable. No necessary repairs as of yet. People look at the vehicle because it's unique looking and there's not many out on the road. We saw only three driving to Florida and back from Michigan.Apr 29, 2009

I have recently gotten rid of my 2008 Ford F150, and purchased a 2009 Ford Flex. I was very worried about this transition until I drove home in it. The apperance on the outside is cutting edge and unique, unlike anything else on the market. It constantly turns heads, every day somebody is rubber-necking it. I do have to disspell a myth. It is not flex fuel. It is only regular pump gas. The only thing the name indicates is "Flex"ibility. This it is, flexable. I can configure any of the seats
(excluding the drivers seat) to put in any array of items like latters, grocries, lumber or anything including seven people. The 3rd row is suitable for adults, but may get a little cramped after some hours on the road, the second row is absolutly fine for adults for any length of time considering todays standards. The drivability is next to none, even in the most adverse conditions like ice and snow. It handles like a dream, doing 80mph feels like 30. I do have the AWD Flex, and would not even consider the front wheel drive version. The Flex feels intuned to the driver imputs to the throttle, brakes, and steering wheel. She anticipates your move but doesnt react without your commands. I honestly cannot say enough great things about this vehicle!Feb 03, 2009

The all new Ford Flex is the ugliest car you'll find on the outside. However the inside is one of the most luxurious cars in it's class. The interior is amazing on the fully loaded one. The leather seats is like nothing ford has ever made. The upgraded stereo has a hard drive where you can upload music, pics, and movies straight to your head unit. Also when your fuel light comes on your GPS is notified and pops up the nearest gas station and the price of gas at each location. Another great option is the center console of the middle row is a freezer/fridge. I think the outside could use some work, but the inside is amazing! It is suppose to get 27mpg so that's not bad either.Sep 15, 2008

Cooling fan not working 2009 ford flex
Car started overheating about a month ago. Come to find out the fan was not running. Fuse checked out ok so I replaced the fan module. Worked for about a day then fan stopped working again. I figured it might be the fan motors themselves so I ordered and installed a new fan assembly, which included control module. Again, worked for about a day then stopped. Is there some sort of temperature swith that tells the fan when to turn on based on engine temp? I'm trying not to take it to the shop but I will if I cannot figure it out.
