The 1998 Toyota Rav4 was similar to previous models with a few exceptions. First, did you know that there were two model years in which the Rav4 was offered as a soft-top? No, seriously! 1999 and 1998 Rav4's could get their beaches on with their tops off. Not the prettiest models in the world, but cute.
Other than that, minor changes to the grille and front fascia gave the car/truck/SUV a slightly more updated look. The Rav4 was still available as a 2- or 4-door with all wheel drive.
The Rav4 continued its reputation as more of a cute car than a powerful one, with its 4-cylinder engine. The accompanying mileage can make other SUV drivers very jealous: at 22/25 city/highway, the Rav4 can get you from here to there for much less money.

Great car, 30 MPG, excellent handling especially in winter, little slow on acceleration with 4 cylinder but will keep up with traffic on highway, comfy front seating, could use more space in back / cargo area, but more than enough for most needs. Wife wanted newer, roomierMay 14, 2013

I call it my snowflake. It does well but it isn't big enough for me. The fuel economy and reliability is up there which i like. I think this car is fun to drive though and i would reccomend it. Especially the convertible style for somewhere sunny (not alberta.)Feb 04, 2012

Takes a bit to get up and go, but reliable and fun to drive about. Not that costly to run. Will need to repair occassional things such as power window motors soon and possibly brakes. Nice looking car, it has matching white bumpers and sunroof as extras. Easy to park.Sep 10, 2009

I love my RAV4 ..it has bluetooth so I don't have to hold my phone while I drive, moonroof, JBL stereo..in pearlized white.. V6 4WD..very pretty.. the only thing I don't like is that I got a staggering high interest rate on it bec they said I was a first timecar buyer with less than 3 years credit history..so I'm paying a monthly due like I own a Lexus.. yup!! that's the only thing ugly abt it.Jun 12, 2009

Although the Rav4 has sluggish acceleration, everything else about it's handling is amazing. It appearance also makes it stand out in the crowed and is very comfortable to drive. My parents had the this car for six years and I have had it for three and it has 211,000 miles on it and we have never had to do any major mechanical or cosmetic repairs to it. This car get great gas millage and is very fun to drive.Jan 28, 2009

Terribly built car. Do not expect lane changes to be easy as head checks are near impossible. There is no room in the back and the boot is almost non-existant. Other than that, it is reliable and quite cheap to run (petrol consumption ~10L/100, cheap servicing and spare parts). Taking the roof down and putting it back up is a pain, must be done manually.Oct 25, 2008

Absolutely no cup holders. Sounded like a cross between a sewing machine and a volkswagon beetle.
Was unbelievable reliable! even with over 150K on it.
It did start to lack fuel efficiency towards the end, and was making alot of whiney noises. Luckily a deer has put it out of it's misery. Hopefully it won't be resurected.Oct 22, 2008

love it... smooth, quiet ride.
Good on fuel & really nice to drive.
Has good acceleration & sticks to the road (yay for AWD!)
Haven't had any dramas with it so far (fingers crossed)
